We have been online at AWCfamily.com since Valentine’s Day 2001. This is a hobby of mine, this is basically my public brain and heart. My thoughts, my feelings, my experiences, my nuggets of knowledge and pearls of wisdom. Well, at least those I choose to share with whomever stops by.

Meteorology

I have been fascinated with the weather since elementary school, and managed to get a Masters degree in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University. Though my career went a different direction, the weather still fascinates me. I have a personal weather station and publish near real-time data from it on this website, as well as charts and tables of all data acquired since it became operational in December 2005.

Genealogy

I have been interested in our genealogy since the mid-1990s, and mostly gathered information from other (more dedicated) genealogists in the family. I have also done some personal research online and at the Allen County Public Library here in Fort Wayne (the largest public genealogy research library in America).

Most of the data I have is available online here. To search just in my genealogical data, when using the search form on this page or the Genealogy page, change the In: to Genealogy. Then enter any name (all lower case) to Look For: and click on the Search button.

Photography

I enjoy photography. Occasionally, I actually get some decent shots. I prefer photographing nature, but people and man-made objects do sometimes make interesting subjects.

This is an eclectic journal of websites that made an impression on me at some point in time. Hopefully they’re still out there.

Digital Images

Here are collections of photographs and other digital images that I have amassed and had time to put on this website. For example:

Atomic Test Image Gallery. A collection of photos taken during the U.S. nuclear weapons program of the 1940s–1960s, sized and matted for use as computer desktop background/wallpaper.

Computing

Oddly enough, I also enjoy working with computers. Darn good thing, since I’m a software engineer. Anyway, this area of our website deals with using and programming computers.

Website Development

I enjoy developing and maintaining websites and other online resources. In addition to this website, I also maintain the website for the Algonquian Confederacy of the Quinnipiac Tribal Council (a passion of my mother’s) and an internal website for my employer.

Friends & Family

This section is geared toward those that know us personally. If you are not among those privileged few, you are welcome to be nosy — but you may quickly get bored.

Car Attacks House

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, 17 August 2003, a car jumped the curb and flew over 60 feet, coming to rest fully inside our house. It took out the side and a corner of the garage, half the laundry room, and destroyed the dining room and entryway, including the upstairs staircase. Despite the devastation to property, thankfully no injuries resulted from the incident. The driver, a 17-year-old at the time, fled the scene, was arrested by police a couple of days later, and eventually received only a slap on the wrist from our marvelous judicial system. read more…
